Suspect Held as Police Recover Assorted Suspected Stolen Items in Meru

A suspect believed to be part of a network dealing in stolen property has been arrested following a police operation in Maili Tatu, Meru County.

The operation was conducted by officers from Maua Police Station as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt markets for stolen goods that fuel crimes such as muggings, burglaries and housebreakings.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), investigators targeted a suspect believed to have been purchasing and concealing stolen items obtained through criminal activities.

During a search of the suspect’s residence, officers recovered a range of items suspected to be stolen, including 57 mobile phone covers of various colours and models, eight mobile phones, five television remote controls, audio equipment, television stands and other household goods.

Police said the recovered items are believed to be linked to property crimes that have resulted in significant losses for members of the public.

The suspect was arrested and remains in police custody pending arraignment in court.

Authorities noted that individuals who buy or handle suspected stolen property play a critical role in sustaining criminal activity by providing ready markets for stolen goods and making it difficult for victims to recover their belongings.

The National Police Service reiterated that purchasing or possessing suspected stolen property is a criminal offence and warned that those found engaging in such activities will face legal action.

Police further pledged to intensify operations targeting criminal networks and their accomplices, emphasizing that cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public remains key to improving security and protecting communities from crime.
