Police in Kisumu and Migori counties have stepped up operations against the production and distribution of illicit alcoholic drinks in a continued nationwide crackdown aimed at safeguarding public health and enhancing community safety.

In separate operations conducted in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County, and Rongo Sub-County in Migori County, officers disrupted illegal brewing sites and destroyed about 3,300 litres of kangara. Police also recovered 20 litres of chang’aa, which were secured as exhibits.
The National Police Service said the raids also led to the arrest of two suspects linked to the illicit brewing activities, while other individuals escaped during the operations.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down those who fled and dismantle remaining illegal brewing networks.
The service commended the cooperation of local administrators and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the nearest police station or emergency numbers 999 and 911. Citizens were also encouraged to use the toll-free line 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
The police service reiterated its commitment to protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit alcohol and ensuring all those involved in its production and distribution are brought to justice.
In a related anti-narcotics operation conducted in Rongo Sub-County, Migori County, officers arrested one suspect and recovered several rolls of suspected cannabis sativa. The suspect was taken into custody at Migori Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court.
The National Police Service said the operation forms part of a broader, sustained crackdown on illegal alcohol and drug trafficking within the region.
