TIFA Survey Places Ruto Ahead in 2027 Election Race

President William Ruto has emerged as the leading presidential contender ahead of the 2027 General Election, according to a new survey released by TIFA Research on May 14, 2026.

The TIFA survey places President Ruto at 24 per cent support, followed closely by Kalonzo Musyoka at 19 per cent and Jubilee Party’s Fred Matiang’i at 14 per cent.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ranks fourth with 10 per cent support, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua follows with 9 per cent. Other candidates collectively account for 3 per cent, while 15 per cent of respondents remain undecided.

TIFA noted that the presidential race remains competitive despite President William Ruto taking an early lead in the latest poll.

“The 2027 presidential race remains highly fluid, with no single candidate commanding dominant national support. While President William Ruto leads at 24%, the findings show growing competition,” TIFA revealed.

The survey also indicates that President Ruto is steadily improving his position, rising from 18 per cent support in May 2025 to 24 per cent in May 2026.

Regionally, President Ruto records his strongest support in Northern Kenya at 48 per cent and in Nyanza at 41 per cent. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka dominates the Lower Eastern region with 78 per cent backing.

Former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i posts his best performance in Nyanza at 27 per cent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua draws his strongest support from the Mt Kenya region at 23 per cent.
