Pressure is mounting within the Nairobi County Assembly for tougher scrutiny of senior officials after a section of MCAs demanded lifestyle audits targeting Chief Officers and other county employees following a high-profile arrest linked to corruption investigations.

Several ward representatives, including Korogocho MCA Absalom Odhiambo, Ngei Ward MCA Redson Onyango and Landimawe MCA Simon Maina Mugo, said they intend to table proposals pushing for the audits once the Assembly resumes sittings.
They raised concern over the conduct of Nairobi Chief Officer for Planning, Patrick Analo Akivaga, who was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations connected to irregular developments within the city.
The MCAs argued that weak enforcement and alleged corruption in key departments have contributed to unchecked construction and poor urban planning in the capital.
The leaders also questioned the management of county resources, pointing to the more than Ksh.80 billion allocated to Nairobi from the national government, warning that without stronger accountability systems, public funds could be misused.
Their calls come shortly after the EACC confirmed Akivaga’s arrest, during which investigators reportedly recovered Ksh.65.3 million in cash from his Syokimau residence. Authorities also indicated that title deeds, vehicle logbooks and electronic gadgets were seized as part of ongoing investigations.
“The developments highlight need for deeper oversight of senior county officials, insisting that enhanced transparency measures are necessary to rebuild public trust and ensure public resources are directed towards service delivery, ” they said.
They maintained that lifestyle audits could help deter corruption and improve accountability within the county administration, especially in departments handling planning and development approvals.
