The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the restoration of its permit application system and granted transporters a further 10-day extension to facilitate the processing of applications amid a surge in demand.

In a statement released on Wednesday 10, the authority said transporters can now access permit services through its online portal after the system was restored following recent disruptions.
“The permit application system has now been restored. You may now access permit services via the KeNHA permits portal,” the authority said.
KeNHA noted that since the portal became operational, it has experienced a high volume of applications, prompting efforts to clear the backlog while continuing to optimise the system.
“Since the portal went live, the Authority has received a high volume of permit applications. Our team of verifiers and approvers is working around the clock to clear them, alongside the simultaneous system optimisation and resource allocation,” the authority added.
To prevent delays and ease the permit approval process, KeNHA said it has extended the validity of certain permits and application timelines until June 19, 2026.
Under the extension, trucks operating with expired permits will be allowed to continue transporting the cargo specified in their permits until the new deadline.
“Trucks with expired permits have been granted an extension for the cargo described in the permit. The extension is valid until 19th June 2026,” KeNHA said.
The authority also granted additional time for new applicants to submit permit requests through the restored online platform.
“New permit applications have been granted an extension to allow applicants to submit their applications via the KeNHA permits portal. The extension is valid until 19th June 2026,” KeNHA said.
KeNHA urged transporters and stakeholders to take advantage of the extension period and submit their applications as early as possible to avoid last-minute delays.
The announcement is expected to provide relief to transporters who had raised concerns over difficulties accessing permit services during the recent system challenges.
