Police have intensified operations targeting mobile phone theft networks and illicit electronic trade in Nairobi, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of stolen gadgets.

In an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Kamukunji Police Station on July 27, 2026, police intercepted what they described as a major conduit for suspected stolen electronic devices operating within the Nairobi Bus Station precinct.

Acting on a tip-off, officers launched a swift operation that resulted in the recovery of assorted mobile phones and other electronic gadgets believed to have been snatched from members of the public.

Two key suspects were arrested during the operation and placed in custody pending arraignment. The recovered devices have been secured as exhibits as investigations continue.

The National Police Service warned members of the public against purchasing mobile phones and other electronic gadgets from unverified sources, noting that such purchases may fuel criminal networks involved in theft.

In a separate incident, officers from Muthangari Police Station arrested two suspected phone snatchers who have allegedly been terrorising residents in parts of Nairobi.

Police said the suspects were tracked to Kawangware following intelligence on their whereabouts. They were found in possession of two mobile phones believed to have been stolen from members of the public shortly before their arrest.

The suspects were taken into custody pending arraignment, while the recovered phones were preserved as exhibits.

Mobile phone snatching remains a persistent challenge in Nairobi, with criminals often targeting pedestrians and motorists before escaping through busy streets, sometimes using motorcycles to evade pursuit.

The National Police Service said it remains committed to dismantling criminal networks, recovering stolen property and ensuring that individuals involved in theft face legal action.
