Police Bust Suspected Drug Trafficking Network in Nandi and Limuru

Police have intensified the crackdown on narcotics trafficking following two separate operations in Nandi and Kiambu counties that led to the seizure of large consignments of cannabis sativa and the arrest of several suspects.

In the first incident, officers from Kapsabet Police Station intercepted a motor vehicle along a major route and discovered sacks of cannabis sativa concealed inside the car.

The vehicle, registration number KDP 296G, was found carrying approximately 283.5 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of Sh14.1 million.

Police arrested two suspects identified as Gabriel Lubasi and Wycliffe Geda, who were taken to Kapenguria Police Station for processing as investigations continue.

Authorities described the vehicle as a “mobile stash house,” saying the drugs had been carefully hidden to evade detection.

In a separate operation, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) intercepted a public service vehicle along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway at Kamirithu in Limuru.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of several bales of cannabis sativa packed in black backpacks and wrapped in yellow cello tape.

Police said the narcotics were linked to two passengers identified as Lydia Arebo Emongoluk and Petronilla Kwamboka. The two suspects were arrested and remain in custody pending arraignment in court.

The National Police Service said the operations form part of an ongoing nationwide campaign aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and curbing the circulation of illegal narcotics.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to combating organised crime and warned traffickers that security agencies will continue pursuing those involved in the illegal drug trade.
