Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga

In a statement issued on Thursday, NPS Director of Communication and Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, said that the service has put in place a comprehensive and multi-faceted security plan to safeguard people and property throughout the election period.

“In line with our constitutional mandate to ensure the safety and security of all persons and property, we have developed a robust, multi-faceted security plan. This plan has been coordinated closely with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to facilitate a peaceful, free, fair and credible electoral process,” read part of the statement.

NPS urged all political candidates, their supporters and agents to carry out peaceful campaigns in full compliance with the law, warning that any acts of violence, hate speech, incitement or destruction of property, will be met with the full force of the law.

“Politicians are urged to promote peace and tolerance and to be mindful that any unlawful actions will attract legal consequences,” added Nyaga.

The police service further encouraged members of the public to remain calm and exercise their democratic right to vote without fear, asserting that police officers will be deployed across the country to enhance security.

Nyaga called on Kenyans to ignore and report to the police any attempts to incite violence or disseminate false information.

“Please report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through our toll-free hotlines 999, 911, 112 or anonymously via #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800722203 or WhatsApp 0709570000,” the statement said.

He also emphasized on NPS’s neutrality and its dedication to making sure that law and order is maintained during the electoral period.
