The Nairobi Revenue Authority (NRA) has launched an immediate debt recovery exercise targeting property owners with outstanding land rates that have remained unpaid for more than three years.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the Authority announced that it has appointed six debt recovery firms to pursue unpaid land rates, together with all accrued penalties and interest, across Nairobi’s six boroughs.
“The Nairobi Revenue Authority (NRA) has initiated immediate debt recovery proceedings targeting property owners with outstanding land rates unpaid for over three (3) years, alongside accrued penalties and interest,” the notice read in part.
”To execute this recovery operation across all boroughs, NRA has appointed six specialized debt recovery firms.”
The appointed firms are Siuma Auctioneers for the Western Borough, Prysis Solutions Limited for the Northern Borough, Jephys Auctioneers for the Central Borough, Boresha Credit Services Limited for the South Eastern Borough, Quest Holdings Limited for the Eastern Borough, and AFS Holdings Limited for the Southern Borough.
The Authority warned that property owners who fail to settle their arrears risk enforcement action without further notice. Under the National Rating Act, 2024, recovery measures may include attachment and auction of property, listing with Credit Reference Bureaus (CRBs), and other lawful debt recovery mechanisms.
NRA Receiver of Revenue Tiras Njoroge urged landowners with outstanding balances to clear their arrears immediately to avoid enforcement action.
He further emphasized that all land rates payments must be made exclusively through authorized Nairobi City County revenue accounts, warning members of the public against making payments through unauthorized channels.
”Property owners in default are warned that failure to settle arrears immediately will trigger enforcement actions without further notice. Under the National Rating Act 2024, enforcement measures may include property attachment and auction, Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) listing, and other statutory recovery actions,” said Tiras Njoroge.
“All payments must be remitted exclusively through authorized Nairobi City County Revenue Accounts,” added Njoroge
The Authority also called on residents to cooperate with the appointed debt recovery agents as the exercise gets underway across the city.
