MP Gathoni Wamuchomba slams Ruto’s Statehouse meetings

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has found fault with President William Ruto’s back-to-back engagements with Kenyans at the Statehouse.

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba

Speaking during an interview with a local television station, Wamuchomba dismissed the meetings saying they were motivated by politics rather than genuine reasons.

She maintained that Ruto has failed to deliver a greater portion of his campaign promises but instead, he has mastered the art of giving out fresh pledges. She called on the Head of State to uphold truthfulness and honor the commitments he made.

“What Ruto is doing in State House is purely politics…If he cannot deliver a market, how can I believe that he’ll deliver 15,000 housing units? Let him first finish up on stalled projects before he promises others,” she said.

“Out of the 270 pre-election commitments President Ruto gave, only 4 have been fulfilled, 107 never started, 22 completely broken, and 100 in the process,” she added.

The Githunguri lawmaker also slammed the recent meeting at the Statehouse dubbed ‘Walimu na Rais’, characterizing it as a waste of time.

She insisted that decisions regarding budget allocation to schools are made in the National Assembly.

“It is sad that teachers can be paraded in State House just for a meal and dance…State House is not a house that is supposed to make decisions on capitation, budgets are allocated by the National Assembly,” Wamuchomba stated.

Wamuchomba however called on President Ruto’s administration to move with speed and address capitation constraints hindering the operation of most public schools in the country.

“Whatever the president promises while in office must be put into reality. Headteachers lack capitation, hence have difficulty in running schools, and are forced to send the students for school fees to avoid closing down schools.”
