Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Laare have arrested three suspects and recovered a loaded firearm following an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal activity in the area.

DCI confirmed that the suspects, James Chege, Mitiliano Muriuki, and Lawrence Mwilaria were apprehended during a coordinated raid conducted by officers from DCI Laare and Laare Police Station.
Their arrest follows a string of robbery incidents that have disrupted security in Igembe, Meru County, with the trio believed to be linked to the crimes.
On conducting a search of the residence, the officers recovered a Beretta 1934 Corto pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition. The weapon had been carefully concealed within the house, suggesting an attempt to evade detection.
Authorities say the suspects remain in custody as detectives continue to piece together evidence linking them to the series of robbery incidents, with further arrests not ruled out as investigations progress.
In a similar case on March 25, officers from from Mwea–Makutano Police Post in Kirinyaga County arrested three notorious robbery with violence suspects and the recovered one firearm.
The three individuals identified as Alex Wanjiku alias Aleko, Job Wachira Wanjohi and Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku alias Kinyaa, are believed to be behind a recent violent robbery incident in Ngong on 12th March 2025, during which a victim was shot and seriously injured.
“Upon arrest, Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku alias Kinyaa was found in possession of a Glock 17 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, further cementing the suspects’ link to the violent crime,” DCI said.
“The operation further led to the recovery of a red motorcycle, registration number KMGD 970K (TVS make), which investigators believe was used as a getaway vehicle during the commission of the crime.”
The trio were taken to Ngong Police Station as investigations intensify, with authorities working to establish whether they are linked to other criminal activities in the region.
