FIFA Names Kenya as Host for 2026 Women’s Series Matches

Kenya has been selected by FIFA to host one group of the 2026 Fifa Series women’s competition from April 11 to 15 this year, at the Nyayo Stadium.

The announcement was made on Tuesday March 24, 2026, by Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya. He described the move as a reflection of FIFA’s confidence in Kenya’s sports hosting capabilities.

“This selection is a strong vote of confidence in Kenya’s proven hosting capability. It affirms what the world and our continent have consistently witnessed Kenya’s ability to successfully plan, organise, and deliver world-class sporting events,” stated CS Mvurya.

CS Mvurya extended a formal welcome to the participating teams, officials and fans, affirming that Kenya is fully prepared to host the global tournament.

Kenya’s selection gives the Women’s National Team the advantage of playing on home turf, where they will face India, Australia, and Malawi.

“On behalf of the Government of Kenya, I extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to the participating nations, India, Australia, and Malawi, as well as officials, fans, and the global football community,” stated CS Mvurya.

Mvurya noted that hosting the competition serves as a test of the country’s preparedness in terms of infrastructure, systems, and operational readiness ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, which Kenya will co-host with Tanzania and Uganda.

“As we host this FIFA tournament, we are also taking a significant step forward in our preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania. This tournament provides a critical opportunity to test our infrastructure, systems, and operational readiness as we build towards delivering a successful AFCON,” stressed CS Mvurya.

In the meantime, Kenya’s National Men’s football team, the Harambee Stars, arrived in Rwanda ahead of the FIFA Series tournament, bringing together more than 40 countries. The tournament will kick off from March 25 to 31.

Harambee Stars have been drawn into Group A alongside Rwanda, Estonia, and Grenada, with their opening match against Estonia scheduled for 27th March at 6:00 PM at Amahoro Stadium.
