EACC Uncovers KSh65.3 Million at Home of Nairobi Planning Chief

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced the recovery of KSh 65.3 million in cash during a search operation conducted at the residence of Patrick Analo Akivaga, Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning at Nairobi City County.

According to a statement released by the Commission on Thursday, the operation forms part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and economic crimes involving the county official.

EACC investigators are probing allegations of conflict of interest, abuse of office, bribery, and possession of unexplained wealth.

The Commission alleges that Akivaga has been receiving large sums of money through cash transactions and mobile money deposits that may be inconsistent with his known legitimate sources of income.

Investigators are also examining claims that he has accumulated significant assets whose value appears disproportionate to his earnings.

During the search operation, EACC officers recovered KSh 51.3 million in cash and an additional USD 113,000, estimated at approximately KSh 14 million.

The recovered money, totaling KSh 65.3 million, was reportedly found at the suspect’s residence in Syokimau, Machakos County, as well as inside the boot of his motor vehicle.

In addition to the cash, investigators seized several documents and items believed to be relevant to the case. These include title deeds, motor vehicle logbooks, laptops, mobile phones, iPads, electronic accessories, land and motor vehicle sale agreements, and approval plans linked to Nairobi County Government operations.

EACC stated that the materials recovered during the operation are expected to provide crucial evidence to support the ongoing investigations.

The Commission emphasized that the investigation remains active and that appropriate legal action will be taken once the inquiry is completed.

Possible outcomes may include criminal prosecution and the recovery of assets determined to be proceeds of corruption or wealth that cannot be adequately explained.

The case is expected to attract significant public interest as anti-corruption agencies continue efforts to address graft and enhance accountability within public institutions.
