DIG Eliud Lagat Recalls Presidential Escort Boss Noah Maiyo After Kilifi Security Breach

The National Police Service has reshuffled senior officers in key security units, paving the way for new leadership in the Presidential Escort Unit following the transfer of its commandant, Noah Kirwa Maiyo and the recent attack of President Ruto.

In changes announced by Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, Mr. Maiyo was moved to the Vigilance Department at the Kenya Police Headquarters, with former Recce Squad commander William Sawe taking over leadership of the elite presidential security unit.

The changes also affected other officers serving within the specialised formations.

Mr. Juda Mathews Gwiyo, who had been serving as deputy commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit, was directed to proceed on leave ahead of his retirement.

At the same time, Mr. George Kirera was appointed deputy commandant of the unit after serving as Staffing Officer Personnel within the same department.

“And therefore in the Recce Squad, Mr. Josphat Sirma will act as the Commanding Officer, shifting from deputy commander, NPS said.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Rere Kipkoech was transferred to the Vigilance Department at the Kenya Police Headquarters from his position as Deputy SOB1.

According to the official communication signed by Lagat, the transfers and appointments took effect immediately.

The police service to continue internal adjustments aimed at strengthening command structures within specialised security units and improving operations at police headquarters.
