Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) attached to Kisii Central Police Station, working alongside officers from M-KOPA Kenya Limited, have recovered hundreds of suspected stolen mobile phones during a coordinated operation in Kisii Township.

The operation follows the earlier arrest of 44-year-old Harrison Ndirangu Mwirerie, who is suspected of playing a central role in the handling and distribution of stolen mobile devices.
According to investigators, officers returned to St. Jude’s Building in Kisii Township on Thursday for an extensive search and recovery mission targeting the suspected illegal mobile phone network.
“During the operation the officers recovered fifty-six (56) M-KOPA HMD and Nokia smartphones, along with two hundred and thirty-three (233) assorted mobile phones,” DCI said.
Authorities said all recovered devices have been detained pending forensic examination aimed at establishing ownership and tracing possible criminal networks connected to the phones.
The suspect remains in lawful custody and is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reiterated its commitment to combating mobile phone theft syndicates across the country and ensuring those involved are brought to justice.
