DCI Arrests Suspect in Githurai Roundabout Vehicle Arson During Fuel Protests

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect linked to the arson attack on a motor vehicle at Githurai Roundabout amid the recent violent demonstrations over rise in fuel prices.

The suspect, Elisha Karanja Gatwa, was apprehended in Ruiru following intensive investigations and the pursuit of critical leads stemming from the incident.

He is currently undergoing processing at a DCI facility as detectives intensify efforts to trace and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the criminal act.

“Detectives have arrested a suspect believed to have been involved in the arson attack on a motor vehicle at Githurai Roundabout during the recent violent fuel-related demonstrations,” DCI said in a statement.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has strongly condemned the rising incidents of violence, arson, and wanton destruction of property during public demonstrations.

“Violence, arson, and destruction of property are serious criminal offences. Those found culpable will be pursued relentlessly and subjected to the full force of the law,” the DCI stated.

Investigations remain active, and members of the public with information that could assist in identifying other perpetrators have been urged to contact the nearest DCI office or use the official reporting channels

The DCI said it continues to monitor security situations across the country and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order while protecting lives and property.
