July to Be Mostly Dry and Warmer Than Usual Across Kenya, Weatherman Says

Most parts of Kenya are expected to experience generally dry, sunny and warmer-than-usual conditions throughout July 2026, according to the latest monthly weather outlook released by the Kenya Meteorological Service.

The agency, however, says intermittent cool and cloudy conditions accompanied by light rains will persist in parts of the Central Highlands, Nairobi, sections of the Southeastern lowlands, western Kenya and the Central Rift Valley.

According to the forecast, counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and Southern Rift Valley are expected to receive below-average rainfall during the month.

The northwestern region, including Turkana and Samburu counties, is also projected to remain largely dry, although areas bordering Uganda and South Sudan may experience occasional rainfall that is expected to remain below the long-term average.

In contrast, the Coastal region is likely to receive near-to-above-average rainfall, making it one of the few parts of the country expected to record relatively wetter conditions in July.

The Kenya Meteorological Service has also warned that temperatures across the country are expected to be warmer than usual during the month.

In the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, and the Central and Southern Rift Valley, covering counties such as Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia, rainfall is expected but will likely remain below the long-term average for July.

For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi, residents should expect cool and cloudy mornings accompanied by light rain or drizzle. Occasional afternoon showers are also likely in some areas.

The Southeastern lowlands, comprising Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta and Kajiado counties, together with the Northeastern region, Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo, are expected to remain predominantly sunny and dry. However, occasional cool and cloudy conditions may occur in areas bordering the Central Highlands and Nairobi, as well as the high-altitude parts of Marsabit County.

Meanwhile, counties along the Coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and Tana River, are forecast to receive occasional rainfall, with total rainfall amounts expected to be near or above the long-term average for July.

The Kenya Meteorological Service has advised the public and relevant sectors to use the monthly forecast to plan their activities, particularly in agriculture, water resource management, transport and disaster preparedness.
