Three suspects, among them an elected Member of County Assembly (MCA), are in police custody following a security operation in Nairobi’s Roasters area that led to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspects were identified as Patrick Karani, the MCA for Embakasi East Sub-County, alongside Stephen Kimathi Karimoni and Stanley Njogu Irungu.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives raided the MCA’s office where they recovered a Glock pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

“Three suspects, including a Member of County Assembly (MCA), are now behind bars following a police operation at the Roasters area of Nairobi that led to the recovery of a Glock pistol,” DCI said.

“The suspects, Patrick Karani, the MCA for Embakasi East Sub-County, along with Stephen Kimathi Karimoni and Stanley Njogu Irungu, were apprehended in the MCA’s office after detectives swooped in and recovered the weapon, with a magazine of 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition,” DCI added.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the firearm was being held without a valid licence, prompting the arrest of the three suspects.

The recovered pistol and ammunition have since been secured as exhibits as investigations continue. Police said the suspects remain in custody and are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court.

“With the Glock and its ammunition now secured as exhibits, the trio remains in custody as detectives process them in preparation for court proceedings.”

The DCI reiterated its commitment to tackling illegal firearms possession, warning that individuals found in violation of firearms laws will face legal action.
