Two Arrested as Detectives Seize Sh4.6 Million Cannabis Haul in Nakuru

A major drug trafficking operation was disrupted in Nakuru after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) intercepted a vehicle transporting cannabis worth an estimated Sh4.62 million along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

The operation was launched following intelligence reports that a suspicious vehicle, registration number KDX 264K, was being used to ferry a large consignment of narcotics.

Acting on the tip-off, detectives mounted an ambush along the highway and waited for the vehicle to appear. When officers eventually spotted the car and signalled the driver to stop, the suspect allegedly ignored the order and sped off, prompting a dramatic chase towards the Subukia area.

In a swift response, the detectives managed to immobilise the vehicle by deflating one of its front tyres, forcing it to stop and bringing the pursuit to an end.

Two suspects, identified as David Wafula and Loise Akoth, were arrested at the scene.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of seven sacks containing cannabis sativa weighing a total of 154 kilograms. Authorities estimate the street value of the seized narcotics at approximately Sh4.62 million.

The suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court. The recovered cannabis has been secured and will be presented as evidence during prosecution.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the successful operation underscores its commitment to combating drug trafficking networks and protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.

Investigations are ongoing as detectives seek to establish the origin and intended destination of the seized consignment, as well as identify any additional suspects linked to the trafficking operation.
