Uasin Gishu Lands Officer Charged Over Alleged KSh100,000 Bribe Demand

A clerical officer working at the Uasin Gishu lands office has been charged in court over claims that he solicited and received a bribe to speed up a land subdivision process.

Noah Kipkemboi Rotich was presented before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Cheronoh Kesse on Monday, where he faced charges under the Bribery Act, 2016 for allegedly receiving an unlawful payment.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the officer was arrested following a complaint from a member of the public who reported being asked to pay money in order to facilitate the processing of a land subdivision.

“Rotich is alleged to have demanded Ksh.100,000 from the complainant and received part of the amount as a condition for processing the service,” it ruled.

The court granted him an option of cash bail set at Ksh.30,000 or a bond of Ksh.100,000 as the matter proceeds.

The case has been scheduled for hearing on June 16, 2026, as the prosecution prepares to present its evidence.

EACC continues to warn public officers against engaging in corruption-related activities, noting that complaints from members of the public remain key in triggering investigations and arrests.
