The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced a major breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari of PCEA Tabuga Church in Nakuru North Sub-County, with two suspects already charged in court as detectives intensify efforts to track down additional individuals linked to the crime.

In a statement issued on Thursday June 4, the DCI said extensive forensic examinations and intelligence-led investigations conducted by officers from the Homicide Directorate, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Operations Support Unit (OSU), and Nakuru County investigative teams led to the arrest of Felix Odinga Okumu and Berryly Nafua Atenyo.
The two suspects were arrested following investigations into the killing of Rev. Ngari, who was murdered on the night of May 3, 2026.
According to the DCI, investigators completed inquiries involving the two suspects and forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and legal guidance.
Following the ODPP’s recommendations, the suspects were arraigned before the Nakuru Law Courts, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. The case is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on June 17, 2026, before the commencement of the trial.
Despite the arrests, detectives say investigations remain active as they pursue additional leads and possible accomplices connected to the killing.
The DCI has appealed to members of the public to help identify an individual captured in images obtained during the investigation. Authorities released both the original photograph and a digitally enhanced version, saying the person is considered a key person of interest who may possess information critical to advancing the case.
“Both images depict the same individual, who is considered a person of interest and is believed to possess information that could significantly advance the investigation and assist in identifying additional accomplices,” the DCI said.
Investigators further revealed that they are profiling other individuals believed to have links to the murder as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crime.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice, the DCI said it remains determined to ensure that all those involved in the killing are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
Members of the public with information that could assist investigators have been urged to report to the nearest police station or share information anonymously through the Fichua Kwa DCI platform. Information can also be submitted through the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
The agency thanked the public, the PCEA fraternity and other stakeholders for their cooperation as investigations continue.
