A potentially deadly terror attack was thwarted after a multi-agency security team arrested a suspect found in possession of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Garissa-Dadaab Road.

The suspect, identified as Hussein Issa Baraki, was intercepted during a routine patrol at the Haji Aden area when officers noticed his suspicious behavior by the roadside.
Upon spotting the security team, he attempted to flee into a nearby bush, triggering a brief chase through dense thickets before he was overpowered and arrested.
“The suspect, Hussein Issa Baraki, raised suspicion after officers on routine patrol at Haji Aden area spotted him by the roadside. The moment he noticed the approaching security team, he took off into a nearby bush in a desperate bid to escape,” the DCI stated.
Security officers later escorted him back to the exact location where he had been standing, where a search uncovered an IED believed to have been prepared for a planned attack.
Authorities also recovered military-style jungle attire, including a jungle jacket and trousers, as well as two mobile phones, which are now being treated as exhibits.
The suspect was taken to Garissa Police Station as detectives intensified investigations ahead of his arraignment in court. The recovered materials have been secured for forensic analysis.
Security agencies have described the operation as a significant success in the ongoing fight against terrorism and violent extremism, urging members of the public to continue sharing timely information to help prevent attacks and enhance safety in the region.
