KURA Closes Section of Eldoret Road for Nairobi River Bridge Construction

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of Eldoret Road in Nairobi, for a period of four months.

In a public notice issued on Monday May 11, 2026, KURA stated that the section will be closed from 6AM Monday May 18, 2026 till 6PM Friday September 18, 2026.

According to the authority, the closure is to facilitate the construction of a new vehicular bridge over the Nairobi River.

“We wish to notify the general public that a section of Eldoret Road, Nairobi, will be closed as from 6 AM Monday, May 18, 2026, till 6 PM Friday, September 18, 2026 (Four Months),” KURA stated.

“This is to allow the contractor to undertake the construction of a Vehicular Bridge across the Nairobi River,” it added.

The authority called on motorists to avoid the affected section and use alternative routes throughout the construction period.

To minimise congestion, motorists have been urged to use Eastlands feeder roads and nearby connecting routes to access Jogoo Road and other arterial roads around the closure.

Drivers may also opt for routes via Ngong Road, Mbagathi Road, Lang’ata Road, and connecting inner-city roads.

The authority also indicated that traffic police officers and marshals will be deployed to guide road users and manage traffic flow along the affected corridor.

The authority further expressed regret over the disruption, stating, “We apologise for the inconvenience caused as we endeavor to Transform Urban Mobility.”
