KeNHA Restores Traffic on Iten–Kabarnet Road After Landslide Disruption

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced traffic restoration along Iten – Kabarnet road, following earlier disruption caused by a landslide.

In a public notice released on Tuesday May 5, 2026, KeNHA confirmed that the affected section near Kolol area has been reopened for motorists.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists and the public that traffic flow along the Iten-Kabarnet Road near Kolol has been restored,” the notice read in part.

“This follows earlier disruption caused by a landslide resulting from ongoing heavy rainfall across the country, which had blocked the affected road section.”

The road had been rendered impassable after a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall blocked the route, cutting off movement along the key transport corridor.

KeNHA has advised motorists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site, as conditions continue to stabilize.

The disruption began on April 29, when KeNHA announced the closure of the same section after heavy rains caused the ground to give way near Kolol.

At the time, motorists were advised to use the alternative route through Iten-Eldoret-Eldama Ravine-Kabarnet to avoid delays.
