The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has formally written to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that it will hold party primaries for the MP position for the Ol Kalou Constituency on May 9, 2026 between 6:00 am and 5:00 pm.

In a letter dated April 27, 2026, to the IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, the Rigathi Gachagua led party noted that nominations will be conducted at all gazetted polling stations in the constituency.
The party also reiterated that the process will uphold applicable electoral laws and the party’s nomination rules and procedures.
“The nomination of party candidates for the position of Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency will be done in accordance with the provisions of the relevant electoral laws and nomination guidelines and procedures of our party,” the letter stated.
DCP Party also noted that it has forwarded the list of polling stations to be utilized during the process to the electoral body.
“Our party is committed to the process of transparency and fairness during the nomination process,” the letter read in part.
The notice comes a day after IEBC announced that the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election in Nyandarua County will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 following the death of area MP David Njuguna Kiaraho.
“By-Election for Member of National Assembly for Olkalou Constituency in Nyandarua County will be held on Thursday, 16th July, 2026,” IEBC stated in its official notice.
The seat was officially declared vacant after the National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, issued a special Gazette Notice on April 20, in line with Articles 101(4)(a) and 103(1)(a) of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and Section 16(3) of the Elections Act.
Ol Kalou constituency was left without a lawmaker following the death of David Kiaraho on March 29, 2026, while undergoing treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.
The late legislator had served as Ol Kalou MP since 2013 and was in his third consecutive term in the National Assembly.
