Police officers from Rongo Sub-County are providing security at Migori County Referral Hospital after a suspected trafficker was admitted following a serious road accident while transporting bhang valued at approximately Sh34.1 million.

It is reported that on April 24, 2026, the suspect, 52-year-old Samson Ayiera Chacha, was behind the wheel of a trailer, when he lost control, plunging into river Kuja.
Chacha sustained severe injuries in the crash and was rescued by good Samaritans who rushed him to the hospital for urgent medical care.
Authorities conducted a coordinated recovery operation, successfully retrieving a submerged trailer from the river.
The vehicle was then towed to Kamagambo Police Station, where a subsequent inspection revealed it was carrying bhang.
“Anti-Narcotics Officers stationed in Isebania were summoned to take charge of the investigation, and it was established that the trailer was ferrying 1,137.8 kilogrammes of bhang with an estimated street value of Sh34,134,000,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.
The DCI confirmed that the driver, who is currently receiving treatment at Migori County Referral Hospital, remains under police watch and will be charged upon discharge.
