Police nab man linked to defilement of 5-year-old in Homa Bay

The National Police Service (NPS) officers have arrested a suspect, Danis Otieno Riani, who is linked to the defilement of a five-year-old girl in Got Kokech, Homa Bay County.

Police officers launched an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator, following the report of the incident.

“The suspect made multiple attempts to evade arrest by frequently changing locations and going into hiding. However, through sustained investigations and intelligence gathering, he was successfully tracked down to his hideout and arrested,” a statement from the NPS read.

The suspect was later arraigned in court on Monday, April 20, 2026, marking a critical step in the pursuit of justice and ensuring that the victim and her family receive the protection and support they deserve.

The National Police Service further reiterated its commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence, particularly offences involving minors.

The Service emphasized that such crimes are taken with the utmost seriousness and that all perpetrators will be pursued relentlessly and brought to justice in accordance with the law.

NPS urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspected cases of abuse or exploitation.

It also assured all citizens that such reports are handled with urgency, confidentiality and professionalism, and encouraged continued cooperation to help safeguard vulnerable members of the community.
