TVETA revokes Kenya Institute of Management accreditation, orders closure of all campuses nationwide

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has revoked the accreditation and ordered the closure of the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and all its campuses across the country.

In a public notice issued on Monday April 20, 2026, TVETA cited the institution’s offering and awarding of various academic and professional programmes to the public without proper accreditation, as the primary reason for its decision.

“It has come to the attention of the Authority that the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) is offering and awarding various academic and professional programmes to members of the public without accreditation,” highlighted TVETA.

According to the education authority, KIM has continued to offer programs that are not approved and award academic qualifications in contravention of Section 17(3) of the TVET Act Cap 210A, including engaging trainers without valid training licenses as required by Section 23(1) of the TVET Act Cap 210A.

TVETA further notified the public that the institution has no legal mandate to confer academic qualifications. As such, any credentials issued by the institution after 2018 are not recognized for employment, education, or professional purposes.

“The public is hereby notified that KIM does not have the legal mandate to award qualifications. Consequently, any certificates, diplomas, or other qualifications obtained from the institution beyond 2018 are not recognized for purposes of employment, further education, or professional advancement,” it declared.

It advised members of the public to exercise caution while engaging with KIM and to verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling in any programme of study.

TVETA said it is determined to protect the standards and credibility of education and training in Kenya, and that it will act against any institutions that are operating illegally or without proper accreditation.
