KeNHA advises alternative route as flooding hits Mai Mahiu-Suswa-Narok road

Motorists travelling along the Mai Mahiu–Suswa–Narok (B7) road have been urged to exercise caution following flooding and accumulation of silt on parts of the highway near Kedong Ranch.

In a public notice issued on April 16, 2026, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the affected sections had become dangerous due to heavy rainfall experienced in the area.

It noted that water and loose soil had covered portions of the road, making driving conditions risky.

KeNHA confirmed that teams had already been deployed to address the situation and restore normal traffic flow.

“We are working around the clock to reopen the affected sections and ensure the safety of all road users,” KeNHA said in the statement.

Drivers have been cautioned against attempting to pass through flooded areas. According to KeNHA, such actions could lead to vehicles being swept away or getting stuck in the mud.

“Motorists should strictly follow instructions from police officers and traffic marshals on site,” the notice added.

The warning comes as heavy rains continue to pound parts of the region, worsening road conditions.

KeNHA highlighted that particular care should be taken along the stretch between Naivasha ICD and Suswa Ranch, where the impact has been more severe.

For those yet to begin their journeys, the authority advised using the Narok-Njoro-Nakuru (B18) road as an alternative route to avoid delays and possible danger.

KeNHA Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli reassured the public that efforts were ongoing to resolve the situation.

“Our priority is to restore safe passage as quickly as possible while protecting motorists,” he said.

Road users are encouraged to stay updated on traffic advisories and plan their trips accordingly as the rains persist.
