Three people were killed and six others rescued in a building collapse in Nairobi’s Kibera on Wednesday, highlighting concerns over construction safety in the city.

The incident occurred in the Highrise area of Kibera, where a building under construction suddenly gave way, trapping several workers.
Nairobi police chief Issa Mohamud confirmed the fatalities.
“We lost three people in the tragedy. The injured were admitted in hospitals.” said Issa. Response teams, including the Kenya Red Cross, worked to rescue those trapped.
“The collapsed building was under construction. Six individuals have been rescued and taken to Mbagathi Hospital. Response teams remain on site,” said the Kenya Red Cross.
The Kenya Red Cross and hospital officials confirmed the six rescued individuals are receiving treatment with Investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of building collapses in Nairobi, raising concerns over construction safety and adherence to building regulations.
Authorities stress the need for proper construction practices to prevent further tragedies.
