The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arraigned a 29-year-old suspected drug trafficker, who was arrested with Cannabis sativa in Kilifi County.

According to DCI statement issued on Tuesday, the suspect, identified as Winfred Nkatha, was presented before the Malindi Law Courts, after she was nabbed in the possession of 255 kilograms of Cannabis sativa during an intelligence-led operation in Jimba area, Kilifi County.
Nkatha however pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a bond of Ksh 2 million with no option of cash bail.
“The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a surety bond of Ksh 2 million with no option of cash bail. The case is scheduled for mention on April 23, 2026, for pre-trial directions,” DCI said.
She was arrested during an operation conducted by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Malindi, in collaboration with officers from Watamu Police Station.
DCI said that the officers were acting on credible intelligence, that led to the raid of a residential house along Mwatela Road, off the Watamu–Gede Road.
Upon entry, the officers found the suspect inside the house. A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of eight sacks containing rolls of dry plant material wrapped in khaki paper, suspected to be cannabis.
“The suspect and the recovered exhibits were escorted to Watamu Police Station, where weighing and sampling confirmed the total haul at 255 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Ksh7.65 million,” DCI said.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) further reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and safeguarding communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
It also urged members of the public to continue sharing information to support the fight against the vice.
