Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has lauded the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for electing Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga as the Party Leader during the recently concluded Special Delegates Conference (SDC).

Speaking during a church service in Chebuyusi USFW in Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega County, Speaker Wetangula congratulated Dr. Oburu and said he would be a valuable partner in the broad-based political arrangement.
He also praised the Orange Party for successfully holding its first SDC since the death of Raila Odinga. It was during the SDC that the party’s new leadership was officially ratified.
Speaker Wetangula further stated that that ODM is on a positive path that will ensure the party grows with stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I want to congratulate members of ODM for holding a successful SDC that elected Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Odinga as the party leader. We look forward to continuing engagements with him as a partner in the broad-based government,” Wetang’ula said during a church service and the handover of a bus to Chebuyusi USFW in Navokholo constituency, Kakamega county.
He urged those opposing the new leadership to either reconsider their stance or step aside, emphasizing the importance of strong and stable political parties.
“We encourage those with differing views to align with the party’s vision or step aside. Kenya needs strong, stable political parties not individuals driven by personal interests that undermine institutions,” Wetang’ula said.
Wetang’ula noted that ODM and Kenya Kwanza were once arch rivals, but are now united through the broad-based government, which he says will promote the country’s unity and development.
“Leaders who were previously in opposing camps are now working together to deliver on the country’s development agenda and transform Kenya into a prosperous nation,” Wetang’ula said.
