The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a public notice warning motorists and other road users to exercise heightened caution following the onset of heavy rains across the country.

In the advisory released under a “Rainy Season Road Safety Alert,” the Authority cautioned that ongoing rainfall and foggy conditions in several regions are significantly increasing the risk of road accidents.
Reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces have been cited as key hazards likely to endanger motorists, passengers, and pedestrians.
The notice comes amid growing concerns over seasonal spikes in road incidents during periods of heavy rainfall.
According to NTSA, poor visibility caused by fog and rain, coupled with wet and slick roads, creates dangerous driving conditions that demand extra vigilance.
Motorists have been urged to adopt safer driving practices, including maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and reducing speed.
The Authority also emphasized the importance of using headlights in rainy conditions to improve visibility, as well as ensuring windshields are clear by using functional wipers.
In addition, NTSA called for the prompt removal of stalled vehicles from roads to prevent obstruction and potential accidents.
Drivers have also been strongly warned against attempting to cross flooded roads, a practice that has previously resulted in fatalities during heavy rains.
The Authority further encouraged pedestrians to use designated crossing points to minimize exposure to road risks, while passengers were advised to take an active role in their safety by speaking up if they feel a driver is operating a vehicle unsafely.
