President Ruto: I am not going to allow Nairobi Hospital to be taken hostage by conmen and fraudsters.

President William Ruto has vowed that he will not allow Nairobi Hospital to be taken over by fraudsters and conmen.

President Ruto addresses residents during the launch of Cheptais Modern Market in Mt. Elgon

Speaking in Mt Elgon, Bungoma County during the launch of Cheptais Modern Market, Presidnet Ruto asserted that, under his watch, the hospital, which he says is one of the premier medical facilities in this region, will not be dragged down by individuals engaging in fraudulent activities.

The President said he had directed that the individuals implicated in the alleged fraudulent activities be removed and prosecuted.

“There is no way I am going to allow Nairobi Hospital to be taken hostage by conmen and fraudsters. I have instructed that all those who were involved in the fraudulent activities be removed and charged in court,” Ruto said adding that he was approached by senior doctors to protect the hospital.

Ruto further cautioned that the individuals involved would face the full force of the law and stressed that the hospital, built on strong foundational values, would not be undermined by opportunists.

“The con artists will swiftly face the full force of the law. This institution was built on integrity, service, and excellence; values that will not be compromised by opportunists and self-serving interests,” Ruto stated.

“Sanity shall be restored, order will prevail, and the right thing will be done; decisively and without hesitation,” he added.

In addition, he took aim at United Opposition leaders, saying they were capitalizing on the hospital’s governance issues for political mileage, seeking publicity and attention instead of addressing the underlying problems.

“To the brainless opposition, the governance challenges at the Nairobi Hospital were nothing more than an opportunity to scavenge for cheap headlines and attention,” said Ruto.

On Monday March 16, 2026 the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) pressed charges against the hospital’s directors linked to the management of Kenya Hospital Association Limited, the body that runs the Nairobi Hospital.

They include Job Obwaka, a director at the Kenya Hospital Association and an admitting consultant at The Nairobi Hospital, Samson Kinyanjui, the hospital’s board vice chairperson, Valery Gaya and former director Chris Bichage.

The individuals are accused of conflict of interest, illegally receiving benefits, and neglecting to adhere to financial reporting obligations.
