Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects linked to a robbery with violence incident in Kuria East, Migori County a motorist was attacked and robbed Ksh320,000.
In a statement on Sunday, March 15, 2026, the DCI said that a joint operation involving detectives and police officers from Kegonga Police Station led to the arrest.
According to the Investigative agency, the incident occurred at about 9 PM on Saturday March 14, when the victim was robbed at gunpoint along the Getrimba road while responding to a distress call from a friend.
The victim, traveling in a Toyota Probox with his wife and a female companion, was attacked by seven men riding three motorcycles, who grabbed the cash placed on the dashboard.
“During the confrontation, he managed to pull out the rifle’s magazine that had been pointed at him, momentarily disrupting the assailant before the gang fled the scene. The magazine, loaded with seven rounds of 7.62 × 39mm ammunition, was later handed over to police as evidence,” the statement read.
Acting to investigative leads, officers traced the suspects to Korumagucha Village, where three suspects were arrested. They were identified as Samuel Nyamohanga Chacha (40), Yusuf Marwa Mwita (24), and Muniko Samwel Mwita (44).
During the operation, officers recovered a motorcycle (Bajaj Boxer) suspected to have been used in the robbery, a Samsung mobile phone, a hat, a shoe believed to have been dropped during the suspects’ escape, and KSh 36,000 suspected to be part of the stolen cash.
DCI further noted that the suspects remain in police custody pending arraignment as investigations continue.
