The widow to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Ida Odinga, has announced that her net worth stands at approximately Ksh500 million.

Ida Odinga appears before the National Assembly’s Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations for vetting

Ida Odinga made the revelation on Friday February 20, 2026, when he appeared before the National Assembly’s Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations for vetting following her nomination as Kenya’s Ambassador to the United Nations Environment Programme.

She stated that some of the assets form part of the wider Odinga family wealth, in which she holds an interest, while properties personally owned by her are estimated at Ksh 500 million. She did not, however, elaborate on how the wealth was accumulated.

“My net worth, Mr Chairman, this is a very interesting question because there are things that belong to me, Ida, and then there are things that belong to the Odinga family, in which I also have an interest, but my net worth is about Ksh 500 million,” Ida Odinga revealed.

During the vetting, Mrs. Odinga outlined her vision for the role, stressing that tackling environmental degradation must remain a top priority.

“How we manage or mismanage our environment will determine the quality of life we live. Through my work, I will address the devastating effects of environmental degradation, especially on vulnerable people in society. This is a critical moment when we have the opportunity to shape our environmental future,” she said.

She further pledged to champion Kenya’s and Africa’s interests at the global environmental body.

Ida thanked President William Ruto for the nomination, noting that the ambassadorial role to the United Nations Environment Programme, positions her at the heart of international environmental policy and climate negotiations.

She also paid emotional tribute to her late husband, Raila Odinga, describing him as her “biggest supporter” throughout her personal and professional journey.

“I want to make special mention of my partner and my friend. My biggest supporter, my recently departed husband, Raila Amolo Odinga, with whom I have been married for the last 52 years,” she said.

If Parliament approves her nomination, she will take over from former Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba, who has held the position since January 2025.
