Principal Secretaries Visit Oburu Oginga to Express Solidarity Following Raila Odinga’s Passing

Health Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga on Thursday January 8, 2026, led a delegation of PSs in paying a courtesy call to ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga, to show solidarity with the Odinga family following recent bereavements that befell them.

In a statement, the PSs said the visit was aimed at consoling the family following the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and her younger sister Beryl Odinga.

The Principal Secretaries also joined the family in celebrating what would have been Raila Odinga’s 81st birthday, to honor his legacy, leadership, and contributions to Kenya’s political journey, democracy, and reform.

Oburu welcomed the delegation, thanking them for their thoughtful gesture and noting that their presence brought comfort and strength to the family.

He also used the opportunity to offer counsel to the government officials, reiterating on the importance of upholding diligence and accountability in the execution of their duties.

“I received a delegation of Principal Secretaries who paid a courtesy call at my office in my capacity as the ODM Party Leader. The delegation expressed solidarity with the Odinga family following the recent passing of Raila Amolo Odinga and Beryl Odinga. The delegation also joined our family in commemorating Baba’s 81st birthday, a moment of reflection and remembrance,” Oburu said.

“I sincerely thanked the Principal Secretaries for their thoughtful gesture and used the opportunity to offer counsel on the importance of diligence, accountability, and effective service delivery in the execution of their respective mandates, in service to the people of Kenya,” Oburu added.

The PSs who escorted Ouma Oluga include, Judy Pareno, Principal Secretary for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs, and Stephen Isaboke, EBS, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications.

Others were Carren Agengo, Principal Secretary for Children Services; Dr Caroline Karugu, Principal Secretary for East African Community Affairs; Prof Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary for Science, Research and Innovation; and Cyrell Odede, Principal Secretary for Public Investment.

The delegation also included Aden Millah, Principal Secretary for Maritime Affairs; Michael Lenasalon, Principal Secretary for Devolution; Dr Bonface Makokha, Principal Secretary for Economic Planning; and Regina Ombam, Principal Secretary for Trade.
