Matiang’i defends Uhuru, dismisses claims linking him to ODM’s internal wrangles.

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has defended former president Uhuru Kenyatta against allegations that he is attempting to cause divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking during a media briefing on Tuesday, Matiang’i stated that the retired Head of State and the Jubilee Party is only committed to the country’s unity and healthy political competition.

“As the Jubilee Party, we stand committed to peace and unity in our nation’s political landscape. We extend our sincere well-wishes to all fellow political actors as we advance together toward a stronger Kenya,” Matiang’i stated.

Matieng’i reiterated that Jubilee Party is not involved in the internal affairs of ODM or any other party, adding that it upholds multiparty democracy and provides room for all political parties to thrive.

“Let it be known to the general public that we are neither involved in nor inclined toward any form of conflict. Our unwavering belief in multiparty democracy embraces healthy competition, for it is through the flourishing of all parties that Kenya will realise the vibrant democracy to which we all aspire.” Fred Matiangi assured.

He maintained that any internal discussions within a particular party are their own concern, emphasizing that Jubilee Party is solely focused on contributing to the development of a national discourse.

“Any discussions, be they internal, external, or international, within other parties, remain solely their prerogative. We respect their autonomy and wish them success in their endeavours.” Fred Matiangi.

On the ongoing debate concerning the mismanagement of funds meant for Azimio election agents in 2022, Matiang’i slammed Suna East MP Junet Mohamed for dragging the name of Uhuru Kenyatta into the matter.

He urged ODM leaders to instead focus on important issues like keeping the government in check and ensuring it delivers on its promises.

“Instead of focusing on important issues you are trivially focusing on petty things about which agent was paid and not paid,” Matiang’i stated.

The Jubilee party deputy leader claimed that the discussion is a ploy by the government to soil the reputation of Uhuru Kenyatta. He urged those raising the questions to ask whoever hired the agents.

“Concerns about agents who were paid or not paid and so on, they should address who hired them; why should it be a national issue?” Matiang’i claimed.

The conversation around the funds was initiated by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, when he accused Junet Mohammed for swindling the money meant to pay Azimio agents.
