A routine night patrol carried out by police officers in Huruma, within Starehe Sub-County in Nairobi led to the recovery of a firearm following a dramatic chase in the early hours of Wednesday, 19th November 2025.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the patrol team was carrying out their normal surveillance operations aimed at enhancing safety, when they encountered a suspicious individual.

The man reportedly became uneasy upon noticing the officers and attempted to flee on foot. This prompted a swift response from the officers.

The patrol team carried out a brief pursuit through narrow paths within the estate, during which the suspect dropped an object before vanishing into a dark corridor.

Officers temporarily stopped chasing the suspect to secure the scene and assess the dropped object. They later discovered that the abandoned item was a firearm.

The police say that the firearm is now stored in safe custody as investigations continue to determine its origin, operational condition, and any other prior connections to criminal activities in the area or beyond.

NPS noted that detectives are working towards establishing the identity of the suspect, reviewing witness accounts and looking through CCTV footages from nearby premises that may have captured the incident.

As part of the ongoing efforts to trace the suspect and stop illegal firearm possession in the community, police officers have also intensified their patrols and surveillance within Huruma area.

The NPS has applauded both the quick response and vigilance of the officers involved, noting their alertness likely prevented potential criminal activity. They further urged members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals within their premises, emphasizing that community cooperation remains a key pillar in enhancing local security.
