President Ruto to deliver State of the Nation address on November 20

President William Ruto is set to deliver his annual State of the Nation address on Thursday, 20th November 2025, before a joint special sitting of parliament.

The address was confirmed on Tuesday November 11, through a notice signed by Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula and his Senate counterpart, Amason Kingi.

Wetangula and Kingi stated that President Ruto had notified both Houses of his intention to address a special sitting of parliament, as per Article 132 (1) (b), which requires the Head of State to brief parliament once every year.

“Following a notification by His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, PhD., C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Speaker of the Senate have convened a special sitting of the Houses of Parliament to be held on Thursday, 20th November, 2025 commencing at 2.30 p.m. for purposes of the President’s address,” the notice read.

“Standing Order 22(2) of the National Assembly Standing Orders and Standing Order 25(2) of the Senate Standing Orders require the Speakers of the Houses of Parliament to, respectively, notify Members of Parliament of the place, date, and time of a special sitting of the Houses of Parliament convened under Article 132(1)(b) of the Constitution,” it added. 

According to the notice, Ruto’s address shall be held in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Building, and is expected to commence from 2:30 pm.

“Now therefore, Members of Parliament and the general public are hereby notified that a Special Sitting of Parliament shall be held in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Building, Nairobi, on Thursday, 20th November, 2025 at 2.30 pm,” the notice stated.

The annual State of the Nation address brings together members of the National Assembly and the Senate.

During the session, the President briefs lawmakers and the people of Kenya on government agenda, key achievements, progress made in realizing national values and principles of governance.
