Dutch national who assaulted police officers in Diani to be detained for 14 days to allow completion of investigations.

Elwin Ter Horst, a Dutch national captured insulting police officers at Diani Police Post, will remain in custody for the next 14 days to enable completion of investigations.

This follows an application by the Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (SADPP) Rosemary Nandi on Thursday, which was granted by Senior Resident Magistrate Joy Mutimba.

Ms. Nandi informed the court that the 14-day period was necessary as detectives were probing multiple offences including assault, malicious damage to property, resisting arrest and suspected illicit drug dealings.

She further reiterated the importance of ensuring justice for the victims, citing the seriousness of the allegations, and also noted the DPP’s commitment to ensuring accountability and upholding the rule of law, regardless of the suspect’s nationality.

The suspect was arrested at Boma Banda Cottage in Diani following reports of violent conduct, including verbal abuse and spitting on one of the police officers.

He is also accused of assaulting his Kenyan girlfriend, Angela Atieno.

The case will be mentioned on November 13, 2025, to confirm the progress of investigations.
