Blow to Waititu as court rejects bid to overturn his 12-year jail sentence.

Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu suffered fresh setback after the High Court declined to review his 12-year prison sentence.

Former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu

In a ruling delivered on 16th September 2025, Lady Justice Lucy Njuguna, rejected an application filed on 28th August 2025, in which the former Kiambu County boss sought to overturn his sentence over Ksh588M corruption case.

On 31st July 2025, Lady Justice Njuguna released Waititu on a Sh53 million bond, pending the hearing of an appeal challenging his conviction.

Meanwhile, the latest ruling means that Waititu will continue serving his term at Kamiti Maximum Prison, after he failed to meet bond terms that required him to deposit a Sh53 million bank guarantee.

In February 13, 2025, Anti-Corruption court convicted Ferdinand Waititu and co-accused in the Ksh588 million road contract scandal and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment or a fine of Kes52,749,000.

The court found out that he failed to uphold the principles of good governance and safeguard public funds after irregularly receiving Sh25 million from Testimony Enterprises following the award of a flawed tender.

His wife, Ms. Susan Wangari Ndung’u, was also sentenced to one year imprisonment or pay a fine of Ksh500,000 for dealing with suspect property.

Besides imprisonment, the court disqualified Waititu and other convicts from holding elective or appointive public office, for a period of 10 years.

Governor Waititu’s conviction has since been hailed by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), describing it as a significant milestone in the fight against corruption.
