President William Ruto has finally commented on the ongoing misfortunes bedeviling former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, accusing a section of leaders of exploiting the saga for political gains.

Speaking on Tuesday March 24, 2026 at a political rally in Sori, Migori County, President Ruto claimed that opposition leaders mislead Tuju into faking his abduction in order to gain sympathy.
“Even recently, they went to lie to Tuju. They told Tuju to go and hide in his bedroom and pretend that he had been abducted. Just imagine,” Ruto revealed.
The President advised the United Opposition leaders led by Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua to exercise restraint and allow Tuju to receive genuine help, adding that the former minister “needs honest friends.”
“Tuju needs honest friends, and he needs honest advice. He needs to be helped. He does not need scavengers who are trying to scavenge the misfortune of a citizen,” Ruto said.
Ruto maintained that the duo, Kalonzo and Gachagua, are taking advantage of Tuju’s problems to gain political popularity. He asserted that Tuju could easily save his property if he disassociates himself from them, accusing the pair of unnecessarily dragging Uhuru Kenyatta’s name into the dispute.
“Those people are trying to get popularity through their fellow citizens’ misfortune. We want Tuju to be advised so that his property can be saved,” Ruto emphasised.
“He does not need those conmen. They have even implicated former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name in their mess,” he added.
The Head of State spoke a day after Raphael Tuju resurfaced at his Karen residence, after he was reported missing.
While addressing the press, Tuju said he abandoned his car and went into hiding because he was being trailed by unknown people.
He was later arrested and taken to Karen Police Station by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who alleged that he had falsified his own abduction.
