President William Ruto has appointed Justice Mohamed Warsame as a judge of the Supreme Court.

The Head of State made the appointment through a Gazette notice dated May 5, 2026, following his successful vetting and nomination by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Justice Mohamed Abdullahi Warsame to be Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya,” the notice read.
Justice Warsame was nominated by JSC on April 29, 2026, to fill the vacancy left by the late Justice Mohamed Ibrahim, who died in December 2025.
Before his nomination and appointment to the Supreme Court, Warsame served in the Court of Appeal of Kenya, a position he held since 2012 after his elevation from the High Court, where he had been appointed in 2003.
He also served in multiple divisions of the High Court, including the Commercial, Criminal and Judicial Review divisions, gaining experience in a wide range of legal matters.
Justice Mohamed Warsame holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Before his appointment to the High Court in 2003, he was a practising advocate of the High Court of Kenya. In 2013, he was elected as Commissioner to the JSC by the Court of Appeal Judges Pursuant to Article 171 (2) (c) of the Constitution of Kenya. Justice Warsame was a member of both the Finance and Administration and Human Resource Committees of the JSC.
