Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi, has confirmed the passing of Kariobangi North MCA, Joel Munuve.
The speaker asserted that Joel was heading to his office in the CBD when he suddenly collapsed and died after complaining of chest pains. He described him as a dedicated leader and a tireless servant of the people.
Kileleshwa ward MCA, Robert Alai, also narrated the last moments of the late Joel Munuve.
“Joel was picked up by a friend but on the way coming to town he started complaining of some pain and that is when he died, just before being admitted into the hospital,” Alai recounted.
Leaders including former Nairobi County governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko also confirmed his death and shared message of condolences to the deceased’s family.
“Kariobangi North MCA Hon. Joel Munuve has passed on. My sincere condolences to his family, the entire Nairobi County assembly, and Nairobi County government fraternities. May the Almighty God give you strength, comfort, and hope during this difficult period,” read Sonko’s statement.
Nairobi County gubernatorial candidate Agnes Kagure described Munuve as a devoted leader who valued the interests of his constituents.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Kariobangi residents and the Nairobi County Assembly following the sudden and shocking demise of Hon. Joel Munuve, the Kariobangi North MCA. Munuve will be fondly remembered for his stellar representation and close touch with his constituents. May God comfort friends and family and rest his soul in eternal peace,” Agnes Kagure wrote on X.
Other leaders who mourned Munuve were the President of Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Hussein Mohammed who labelled him as a selfless leader and a reliable friend.
“Joel was a true leader who was committed to improving the lives of those he represented and Kenyans in general. He was a genuine friend who gave his support whenever called upon,” Hussein said.
His death comes just weeks after he launched a signature collection drive to impeach Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja on the grounds of misappropriation of public funds.
“We need to impeach the governor; we want a forensic audit to be done. What has he done with the money that he claims he collects every day? Because how can one person buy 17 high end vehicles? Where did he get all that money from? Munuve questioned while addressing press on March 21.
