Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a water and sewerage officer in Nakuru over allegations of soliciting and receiving bribes.

The suspect, identified as Leonard Cheruiyot Mutai, an employee of the Nakuru Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO), where he serves as a leak detection officer, was arrested over a complaint from a resident of Langa Langa who alleged that the officer had demanded KSh15,000 to facilitate the replacement of a confiscated water meter.
According to EACC, investigators mounted an operation that culminated in Mutai’s arrest on March 23, 2026, reportedly as he received the money.
At the time of the operation, officers recovered KSh15,000 believed to be the bribe, as well as an additional KSh100,000 concealed in socks and KSh18,000 found in his coat pocket.
Mutai was taken to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing before being held at the Central Police Station. He was later released on a cash bail of KSh20,000 pending the completion of investigations.
The commission has reiterated its call to members of the public to report incidents of corruption and resist engaging in bribery as the case remains under investigation.
