A Kisumu County revenue officer has been charged in court over allegations of bribery, following investigations carried out by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Francis Muga Odhiambo, the officer in charge of revenue collection at Kisumu Bus Park, was apprehended on February 9, 2026 and arraigned before the Kisumu Anti-Corruption Court a day later.
Mr. Odhiambo was charged with soliciting and receiving a bribe of Ksh 10,000, from a businessman operating a public service vehicle between Kisumu and Kisii.
According to the court documents, the accused allegedly demanded for Sh 18,500 from the complainant, threatening to pursue fabricated charges against him unless the bribe was paid.
The investigators established that the officer pursued the payment persistently, prompting the businessman to report the matter to the EACC.
Following the complaint, the commission launched investigations, during which Mr. Odhiambo was allegedly caught in the act, receiving Sh10,000 as part of the demanded bribe. The accused was immediately arrested and taken to police custody, before being presented in court.
Upon being charged, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence. The court then released him on a Sh20,000 cash bail or an alternative bond of Sh50,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The matter is scheduled for hearing on 25th February 2026 at the Kisumu law courts.
In a statement, the EACC reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption, safeguarding public interests, and improving access to quality services for all citizens. The commission emphasized that it will continue to pursue individuals who engage in corrupt dealings, regardless of their position.
Mr. Odhiambo’s arrest and prosecution form part of broader efforts by the anti-graft agencies to combat corruption within county governments and enhance accountability in public service, especially in departments of revenue collection, which remain vulnerable to graft.
