DCI detectives have arrested four law enforcement officers suspected to be behind an illegal arms and ammunition trade.

The four; Assistant Superintendent Ekidor Lotira Charles, Corporal Isaac Kipngetich, Constables Ileli Cyrus Kisamwa and Samson Muriithi Mutongu, are believed to be behind the illegal weapons trade that has contributed to insecurity and violence in various parts of the country.
While confirming the arrest, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations disclosed that the four officers have been under investigations for some time now.
“Detectives from the Operations Support Unit have arrested four law enforcement officers suspected of being behind an illegal arms and ammunition trade that has contributed to insecurity and violence in various parts of the country,” DCI said.
“The four officers have been under investigation for some time due to their suspected involvement in the illegal trade of firearms and ammunition. Their arrest follows days of detailed profiling, surveillance, and forensic investigations by the OSU team.”
Acting on an intelligence, detectives busted first suspect, Corporal Kipngetich, after receiving a consignment of 1,000 rounds of ammunition from Constables Ileli and Mutongu, intended for Assistant Superintendent Ekidor Lotira.
Detectives later managed to arrest Constables Mutongi and Ileli, finding them in possession of 19 assorted firearm magazines, firing pins, cleaning kits, and three spent 9mm cartridges.
Other items recovered include a Remington Rand Model 1911 pistol and two Ceska pistol firing pins.
DCI further stated that the four suspects have been processed and will remain in custody while awaiting their arraignment on Monday, 29th September 2025.
