Drug Trafficking Crackdown Intensifies as Police Seize Cannabis in Embu and Machakos

The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified intelligence-led operations targeting drug trafficking and illicit activities in Machakos and Embu counties, recovering large quantities of suspected cannabis and arresting a suspected trafficker as part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown.

In Embu County, a multi-agency security team mounted a targeted operation in the Shauri area following what police described as credible intelligence.

During the raid, officers searched an identified house and recovered 3,450 rolls of suspected cannabis sativa, nine packaging boxes, 200 envelopes believed to have been used for packaging narcotics, and other related items.

According to the National Police Service, all recovered items have been secured as exhibits as investigations continue. However, the main suspect escaped after spotting the officers, prompting an ongoing manhunt.

“All recovered items have been secured as exhibits, and investigations remain ongoing. Efforts are actively under way to trace and apprehend the suspect, who fled upon sighting the police,” the NPS said in a statement.

In a separate operation in Machakos County, police officers from Kibaoni Police Patrol Base, working jointly with National Government Administration Officers, arrested a suspected drug trafficker allegedly found in possession of one kilogram of processed cannabis sativa, half a kilogram of unprocessed cannabis sativa, 600 rolling papers, and a rolling tray believed to have been intended for the preparation and distribution of narcotic substances.

The police said the operations demonstrate the Service’s continued resolve to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade and ensure offenders are brought to justice.

“These operations underscore the National Police Service’s unwavering commitment to pursuing criminals, disrupting illicit enterprises, and denying offenders safe havens,” the statement read.

The NPS has also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely information on criminal activities.

It reiterated that community cooperation remains essential in combating crime and building safer, drug-free communities, urging residents to report suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the available toll-free reporting channels.
