Autopsy Confirms Margaret Wambui Died Instantly After Fatal Rooftop Fall

An autopsy has confirmed that 21-year-old Margaret Wambui died from multiple severe fractures after falling from the rooftop of Altura Apartments in Nairobi’s Upper Hill, with medical findings indicating that she died instantly.

The post-mortem examination was carried out at the Nairobi Funeral Home in the presence of a pathologist appointed by the family.

According to relatives, the examination established that the impact of the fall caused extensive injuries across her body.

“We had our family doctor present during the post-mortem, and we have been informed that she indeed died from the fall. Almost every part of her body was fractured, although her head did not sustain any injuries,” said Maina Gathogo, a relative.

During an interview, sources familiar with the investigation said detectives reviewing CCTV footage from the apartment building have not found evidence suggesting another person was involved in Wambui’s death.

Investigators established that she entered the premises shortly after 8 p.m. and later spent more than 40 minutes on the rooftop taking photographs.

The footage reportedly shows her moving around the rooftop while a security guard carried out routine patrols.

Detectives believe that shortly before the incident, the guard briefly left the area to use the washroom. Wambui was also captured standing near the edge of the rooftop moments before she was last seen alive.

The findings have left her family searching for answers as they wait for police to complete their investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Although the post-mortem has established the cause of death, relatives say they still want investigators to determine what happened in the final moments before the fatal fall.

“Our prayer is that detectives from the DCI Kilimani continue with the investigations so they can establish what happened. If she jumped, we want to know what could have driven her to make such a decision,” Gathogo said.

The family has also appealed to investigators to allow them to view the surveillance footage, saying it would help them understand what transpired and provide closure.

“There is CCTV footage showing what transpired, and as a family we would like to be allowed to see it so that we can find closure and be satisfied findings,” Gathogo said.

Wambui’s death has deeply affected her relatives and friends, who described her as a young woman with ambitions of building a career in the hospitality industry.

As they begin preparations for her burial, they remain hopeful that ongoing police investigations will provide a clear account of the events leading to her death and answer the questions that continue to trouble the family.
